Here's a classic washed Rwanda that we are really enjoying this season - high clarity, sweet and round.
Inzovu is a specialty coffee produced by Rwanda Trading Company (RTC) and named after the Inzovu Washing Station, located in Western Rwanda, near the shores of Lake Kivu. Inzovu means “elephant” in Kinyarwanda, symbolising strength and presence, and the name is used by RTC to represent coffees sourced from selected smallholder farmers delivering cherry to this station. The area benefits from high elevation, fertile volcanic soils, and a temperate climate that supports slow cherry maturation and refined cup quality.
The coffee is grown by hundreds of smallholder farmers at elevations of approximately 1,600–1,900 masl, primarily planted with Red Bourbon, Rwanda’s dominant and best-performing variety. Processing at Inzovu is typically fully washed, following Rwanda’s classic style: hand-sorted cherry, careful pulping, extended fermentation, thorough washing, and slow drying on raised African beds.
The resulting cup is one with an amazing aroma and tasting note of hawthorn, the juiciness of red currants, and the sweetness of lotus paste like mooncakes!
